About us:
VOYU (Varangian Orthodox Christian Youth Union) is a pan-orthodox christian group for university students. Our goal is to create a group for interaction with other Australian Orthodox Christians and those interested in Orthodox Christianity. VOYU is based on the idea of a bringing together of Orthodox cultures (reflecting the makeup of the Byzantine emperor's Varangian guard). This stresses our club's desire to create a multicultural community that can cater for all peoples. Our goal is to create Orthodox outreach to other university students as well as to provide activities, talks, worship services, and hangouts between Orthodox university students. Our club also aims to promote dialogue between Orthodox Christians and other beliefs, in order to share the Orthodox Faith to people in Australia, many of whom may have never even heard of Orthodoxy before. We also wish to create a focus on English language mission and a local spiritual culture for Australia. As opposed to more general Christian clubs like Christian Union, we seek to emphasise the unique theology and practices of the Orthodox Christian Faith that set us apart from other Christian denominations.
