HDR Buddy Program

Swinburne Postgraduate Research Association

Are you a new or experienced HDR student looking to connect with other students with similar or different research interests?

The Swinburne HDR Buddy Program is a student-led initiative that aims to connect new research students with established/experienced students working in a similar area or who have shared research interests.

The objective is to provide buddies with one-on-one or group support, especially in the first few months of their research program. It also creates an opportunity for experienced research buddies to offer advice, build connections, and help new students settle into their research degrees.

Areas of discussion include both, academic and non-academic research experience at Swinburne. Experienced buddies may share insights on the starting point of their research, from the inception of initial research ideas to the development of research proposals, tips on conducting literature reviews, research methodology, the use of research software such as NVivo, Endnote, etc., and their experience with milestone reviews (
pre-confirmation of candidature reviewconfirmation of candidature review, mid-candidature review, and draft thesis review). Non-academic discussions could be around work-life balance while doing a research degree.
