Propose an Event

Swinburne Linux Club

If you would like to propose an Event for the Linux Club to hold, feel free to email your proposal to events@swinlinux.club.

Keep in mind that, for your proposal to go ahead, someone would need to be willing to run the Event (particularly if the Event would require advance preparation, e.g. designing tutorial material), and our Committee Members often don't have the time to do it themselves. As such, if you're willing and have time, we encourage you to volunteer to run the Event yourself (the Committee will arrange the room booking for you, as well as informing Linux Club Members via email and UniOne).

If you're willing and able to run an Event yourself, please email events@swinlinux.club, tell us that you're willing to run the Event yourself, and specify the following details:

Event name
A name for the Event, which we will use on UniOne, and in the Subject line of the emails we send out.
Date
The date for the Event to run. Please specify a date at least 2 weeks away, so that we have time to see your email and book the room.
Start time
The time at which the Event should begin. This should align with a half hour (e.g. 08:30, 12:30, 20:30, etc.).
Duration
How long the Event should run for. This should be a whole number of hours (e.g. 1 hour, 3 hours, 4 hours, etc.)
Location
A description of the type of room you require (e.g. computer lab, classroom, classroom with power points, lecture theatre, lecture theatre with power points, etc.)
Protocol requirements
If this Event requires the use of any protocols that are usually blocked on Swinburne's network (e.g. SSH, NTP, etc.), please list those protocols here, so that we can get them unblocked for the duration of the Event.
Software requirements
If this Event needs to be based in a computer lab with specialised software installed (e.g. PuTTY, FileZilla, VirtualBox, VMware, etc.), please list that software here.
Short description [1]
A very short description of your proposed Event, to be used in the previews of the Event on UniOne. If the short description is too long, it might not fit properly in the UniOne Event listings - something around 25 words should usually fit.
Long description [2]
A more detailed description of your proposed Event, preferrably attached to your email as a separate file. This will be used in the email we use to announce the Event, as well as on the UniOne page for this specific Event. UniOne supports Markdown formatting and HTML formatting, so submitting your long description as either a .md file or a .html file is preferable. However, you can also give us a .txt file if you prefer.
(Optional) The image for the UniOne pages that list upcoming Club Events [1]
This image should be 360x203 pixels, and should be in PNG or JPG format. Transparency is supported. If you don't provide this, we'll default to using the Tux penguin.
(Optional) The image for the UniOne page for this specific Event [2]
This image should be 848x265 pixels, and should be in PNG or JPG format. Transparency is supported. If you don't provide this, we'll default to using the Tux penguin.

Also, if you would like to design tutorial material and upload it to our UniOne site, you can submit it to us as .md files or .html files, along with any associated images.
